ALIENATION Series

Alienation - al·ien·a·tion n.

1. The act of alienating or the condition of being alienated; estrangement: Alcoholism often leads to the alienation of family and friends.
2. Emotional isolation or dissociation.
3. The feeling of being alienated from other people, resulting from hostility

Here, I was trying to show the alienated feeling the average woman feels when looking at images of beautiful, stick thin, tall models. How the image they see in the magazine is so diverse from their own bodies and perception of them selves, that the model they see seems almost alien like - resulting in either the woman disliking her own body or that of the models.

I have nothing against women who do look ‘model like’ - in fact I enjoy looking at them and photographing them. However I know many people who feel unhappy with their own bodies because of the images we see everyday of skinny girls.

Visually inspired by `SeaFairy ‘s ‘Un’ series ( [link] , [link] and [link] )

The idea behind the images was inspired by two things:

1) A lot of my friends (epically one, but I’m not mentioning names) tend to mention my natural slightness (yeah, I’m a skinny cow) compared to their own more curvy bodies. Most have, thankfully, realised that their bodies are just and even more beautiful than my own J However there are still people out there who feel uncomfortable with their curves.

2) Kind of linked to the few sentences above. I used to also compare myself to the images in magazines and feel unhappy with the way I looked because I thought these girls are what everyone should look like. Ironically people did the same by comparing them selves to me. I know what it feels like to feel alienated and uncertain about the images in magazines. But I have come to realise everyone is beautiful in their own way, including myself! :giggle:

Wow, hope everyone got through that description. Please do read it if you have not. It does
EXPLAIN the image and make the meaning behind it much more clear if you do so.

Please note that when I say ‘alien’ I do not mean as in ET or UFO ;) more alien as in unfamiliar and unsettling. If you read the description above this may become more clear

Enjoy!

Beautiful. However, I am that stick thin girl.
It isn't all it is cracked up to be.
Flat cheasted, skinny, and all your friends say to you "your to skinny".
It's my body type can't help it.
But I agree a lot with your statement.
Society puts to much on being what your not.
I like your series!
